Originating in 1786 when the French (Louis XVI) received a gift of over 300 Spanish rams from the King of Spain, the flock was developed on an experimental royal farm not far from Paris. Crossbred with English longwools, this defined breed touts larger bodies and is noted for thicker wool than other breeds. The horns are very impressive with a general curl to 1½-inch curl on average. These awesome rams run in herds, creating power in numbers.

My first hunting experience was with my husband 26 years ago, when he took me to Caryonah Lodge. The Garrisons greeted me and made me feel at home. I was pleasantly surprised by my surroundings. Each room has its own bath, comfortable beds and fresh linens. The warm fireplace in the main dining area allows you meet other hunters and trade stories, and find good conversation or a card game. Even if you don’t hunt, there are places in Cookeville, Crossville and Nashville to shop. Thank you, Caryonah, for many great memories.
